dWise: Comprehensive Suite of IT Solutions for Holistic Management of Healthcare Organisations

Joseph Alexander,CEOThe days when doctors riffled through a folder bulging with papers to find crucial information about a patient's medical history are disappearing. Today, hospitals& physicians are adopting Electronic Health Records (EHR) that gives patients access to critical health information, check test results, manage drug prescriptions, track preventive measures and schedule appointments on the go. While quality EHR & Hospital Information Systems are well established in the developed countries like Denmark, Sweden and the U.S., developing countries like India are slowly turning their heads towards these technologies.

dWise’s complete workflow enabled Patient Centred System enables clinical & non-clinical teams to seamlessly work together, thus improving operational efficiency

Though there is a spurt in demand for EHR &HIS solutions in recent years, the risk of adopting sub-standard quality solutions has inhibited the penetration of this technology in the country.

But this story is about an Indian company that started early and made its mark in the U.S. before anyone even heard of it. Back in 2011, Bangalore-based dWise Healthcare IT Solutions developed a cloud based Ambulatory EHR Solution for Primary Care and an Inpatient EHR product for Hospitals for the U.S. Healthcare industry, which received 'Meaningful Use (MU)' Stages 1 & 2 Certifications, becoming the first Indian company to achieve this milestone. The product was well received in the U.S. market and the clientele grew to more than 20 hospitals on the platform, before it was acquired by
a leading Healthcare IT player in the U.S. in January 2015. Post that, dWise went on to develop several other Healthcare IT
products to address the requirements of the healthcare sector in India and international markets under the brand 'Lifetrenz'. These products are fully compliant to both international and Indian Healthcare IT (HIT) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) standards (Indian standards as approved by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOH & FW), Government of India).

Leaving No Stone Unturned
Lifetrenz solutions are developed holistically to meet every need of a hospital. In fact, they are the only company in India that provides an integrated solution comprising of Hospital Information System (HIS), Electronic Health Records (EHR) & a Hospital focussed ERP to handle the end to end needs of a Hospital. The different products include Lifetrenz Hospital, Lifetrenz Polyclinic, Lifetrenz LIS, Lifetrenz Pharmacy, Lifetrenz Patient Portal/Lifetrenz Patient Mobile App & Lifetrenz Homecare Solutions for healthcare organisations. "Our clients do not look beyond us to address their Healthcare IT needs; as and when they launch their project, we start by deploying our ERP Solution to manage all their CAPEX purchases, accounting, payroll & assets," adds Joseph Alexander, the CEO, dWise.

Beyond this, the company also offers a Primary Care product for all Indian Medical Council registered physicians, comprising of a Practice Management and EHR Solutions. The EHR solution is rich and as powerful as any other hospital solution; the platform also enables the doctors to receive online patient appointments. Currently there are over 1000 doctors using this platform and the numbers are expected to reach 100,000 in the next few quarters. Since 80 percent of a patient's healthcare needs are addressed by the primary care, dWise offers this solution free of cost for life time to keep complete record of patient's longitudinal health issues. The patient's can access context based patient education content, Medical Calendar, Physician Online Appointments, paid Tele consult with their doctors, Health tools and much more through a patient mobile app or portal.

dWise's experience of building Clinical Treatment Protocols, Care Pathways, and Clinical Quality Measures for U.S. Healthcare industry has helped to bring all the best practises to the Indian healthcare industry. Envisaging the lack of a 'Drug Information Framework' in India, dWise set up a team of pharmacists
and built the only Drug Information
Framework (DIF) and 'Clinical Decision Support System' (CDSS) covering over 110,000 packaged drugs sold in the country. The company's complete workflow enabled Patient Centred System brings clinical and non-clinical teams to seamlessly work together, thus improving Operational efficiency, Patient Safety, Quality of Care and financial performance. For instance, one of their customers, which is a 1200 bed capacity hospital, was finding it difficult to maintain NABH accreditation year-on-year even after investing 86 resources across Internal quality, Internal audit, Medical records and antibiotic audit teams. dWise is implementing their Lifetrenz solution at this Hospital currently and the resources in the Hospital's quality teams will come down significantly to just 12.

Taking a Different Route
dWise believes in hiring only freshers and investing on training and grooming them into outstanding engineers. The company believes that the burning desire amongst young people to make a mark in the industry has helped them to build a highly productive team and great products at very competitive costs. While the engineering team is home grown, the management and the domain experts have an average of 25 years industry experience. The company is planning to open its 'Drug Information Framework' and 'Clinical Decision Support Engine' to other players who wish to build EHR systems. dWise is penetrating into South East Asia and Middle East markets and has plans to return to the U.S. market in the next one year. The company is investing heavily on the CDSS engine and envisions on becoming the number one Healthcare IT service provider in the country.
